Executive Directors

Julie Dawes
Julie Dawes, Interim Chief Executive 

Julie joined the Trust in May as the Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals (AHP).  Julie has previously held Director of Nursing positions with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Portsmouth’s Hospitals NHS Trust and Central South Coast Cancer Network. Julie’s clinical background focuses on oncology and palliative care nursing with many of her clinical years spent working on the South Coast. Since September 2016 Julie is undertaking the role of Interim Chief Executive and as such carries the responsibility of Accountable Officer for the Trust.

Mark Brooks
Paula Anderson, Finance Director

Paula joined the Trust in 2009, and was appointed as Deputy Director of Finance in 2014. Prior to this, Paula’s finance experience was within commissioning, including the Finance Director for Mid-Hampshire PCT between 2001-2006. As part of her role at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, Paula leads on Finance, Estates, Procurement and Contracting and is the Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) for the Trust.

Sara Courtney
Sara Courtney, Interim Chief Nurse

Sara joined the Trust in 2013, as the Associate Director of Nursing & Allied Health Professional for the East Integrated Service Division.  In 2015, she became the Acting Director of Nursing and provides professional leadership for nurses and AHPs including professional standards, education and revalidation.  Sara was a part of the Royal Navy until 2000 and has since worked for the Ministry of Defence and a non-foundation Trust, leading on new approaches to care pathways and service improvement.   Here at Southern Health, Sara also leads on infection control, safer staffing and safeguarding of adults, young people and children.  

Della Warren
Dr Lesley Stevens, Medical Director

Lesley has been with the Trust for many years as a Consultant in general adult psychiatry and more recently as Medical Director. She previously held academic positions at the University of Southampton. Lesley provides professional leadership for the medical and psychology workforce, including medical revalidation. She leads on research and development, medicines management, charitable funds and clinical strategy.  As part of her role Lesley is the Caldicott Guardian and the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act lead for the Trust.

chris Ash
Chris Ash, Director of Strategy

Chris joined the Trust in 2012 from Portsmouth Hospitals Trust where he was Associate Chief Operating Officer for Unscheduled Care. Chris is a graduate from the NHS Management Training Scheme and has held roles in Acute, Mental Health and Local Government Services. Most recently Chris was the Trust’s Director of Integrated Services for the West Integrated Service Division(including Children’s and Family services), and held corporate responsibility for IT and Information.

Mark Morgan
Mark Morgan, Director of Operations (Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Social Care)

Mark trained as a psychiatric nurse in 1982 at the Maudsley Hospital in London. Following a series of clinical and managerial roles in learning disabilities, he became the Director of Nursing at Nottingham Healthcare between 1998-2001. He became a PCT Chief Executive in Nottinghamshire from 2001 to 2006. Following a series of interim roles (mostly as Director of Operations within acute hospitals), Mark underwent his return to practice course at Surrey University to become Registered Mental Health Nurse over 2013/14 and joined Southern Health in April 2015 as interim director of operations for mental health; learning disabilities and social care. Mark successfully applied for the substantive role in September 2016. 

Gethin Hughes
Gethin Hughes, Director of Integrated Services 

Since joining the Trust in 2008, Gethin has held several posts including Divisional Director for the South East Integrated Services Division. Gethin previously worked in senior roles within the acute sector in both London and locally. Gethin will lead all of the integrated services across the whole Trust, and our leading role in the North East Hampshire and Farnham Primary and Acute Care System vanguard.

Paul Streat
Paul Streat, Director of Corporate Governance

Paul joined in January 2016 from the health sector regulator NHS Improvement where he was Regional Director, accountable for the regulation of all foundation trusts in the South of England. In his eight years at NHS Improvement, Paul has worked with a wide range of foundation trusts to address strategic and performance challenges alongside a regional system leadership role working with NHSE England and the NHS Trust Development Authority. Paul will take the executive lead for delivering the South Hampshire Multispecialty Community Provider Vanguard - Better Local Care, including developing a robust governance framework; oversee the implementation of new models of care, planning and performance management, and external reporting on performance and delivery to regulators.
