Electronic prescribing

The Trust will soon be introducing electronic prescribing to some of its community teams.  This service is known as EPS and is a secure way of creating a prescription electronically. EPS is commonly used across primary care (GP) and so you may already be using the service with your GP.

What does this mean for our patients?

  • The prescription will be sent electronically to your chosen nominated pharmacy (within England). There is no need to collect a paper prescription from the issuing service as it will be sent electronically
  • The issuing service will check which pharmacy you would like to collect your prescription from each time they create a prescription for you
  • You do not need computer access to have a nomination or use EPS
  • Your pharmacy nomination for hospital or outpatient clinic prescriptions is separate and does not affect any existing prescription arrangements you have with your GP

Will I receive a paper prescription?
No, the prescription will be sent to your nominated pharmacy where it will be dispensed as normal for you to collect.  Helping us to work towards a paper free NHS.

More information
Your service will be able to provide you with more information as and when they start to use EPS. Not all services will be using it right away but we will update our service pages to reflect which teams are using the service.
