Crowlin House

Crowlin House is an 18-bed social care unit in Totton, open 24/7, providing residential care for adults with mental health issues. Our team provide an individualised service so each person can maximise their independence and daily living skills.

Crowlin House is not a permanent place of residence. Typically people stay for 6 to 12 months until they are able to move on to independent living. We offer a range of support to help this happen - including outcome-based support plans, work experience, life skills, social activities (like sports, arts and crafts and gardening) and other development opportunities in the community. They’re all designed to enhance ability, self-esteem and social interactions.

Residents at Crowlin House access their mental health support from the local Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).

Family and friends are encouraged to visit regularly and maintain contact by letter or telephone when visiting is not possible.

Visitors are welcome at all reasonable times up to 10pm, letting a member of staff know of their arrival and departure (signing the visitor’s book for fire safety reasons).

Please see our Coronavirus Information page, for the latest visiting restrictions.

Crowlin House is split into three individual houses which are closely interlinked and run as one unit.
Each service user will have a private bedroom and, within each house, service users can access a range of communal rooms including:

  • Lounge
  • Kitchen / dining room
  • Bathrooms
  • Hobbycraft room
  • Laundry facilities and services

Also on site is an independent living flat which has a bedroom, shower room and a kitchen/ lounge. This is an option to those who, as part of their recovery pathway, can trial living independently with an identified
package of support before moving onto independent accommodation within the community. Any anticipated stay in the flat is approx. three months.
Service users also have access to an extensive garden area, which is mainly laid to lawn for activities like football and gardening. It also has seating areas for relaxation.

If you feel Crowlin House would meet  your needs and support you through your recovery journey, please contact the team on 023 8086 0898 and we will send a referral pack to you.

Once all documentation is received, an assessment will be carried out within five working days. This will usually be completed by two members of the management team. If the referral is accepted, an admission will be arranged when there becomes a vacancy.

Unplanned emergency admissions are referred to Crowlin House by care coordinators. Every effort is made to support people in this event, acknowledging possible emotional and physical support needs.

Crowlin House will not accept referrals for any individual currently misusing drugs or alcohol (this includes ‘legal highs’). With an individual who wants to abstain from drugs/alcohol we may offer a placement dependant on the individual’s willingness to engage with support for their addiction
within the community. Their continued stay at Crowlin House will be dependent upon continued abstinence.

Crowlin House is not able to take individuals who are subject to any section under the Mental Health Act.

Crowlin House is a social care facility and is inspected seperately from the rest of Southern Health's services. The service was inspected in 2019 and rececived a 'good' rating. You can read the full report here: https://www.cqc.org.uk/location/RW133
