This page is for criminal justice professionals referring into the Multi-Agency Stalking Partnership (MASP). Our team can support you in a number of ways, we can provide;

  • Clinical interventions with service users
  • Advice and consultation to Police & Probation Offender Managers
  • Input into the Hampshire Constabulary Stalking Clinic
  • Training to criminal justice professionals on the behaviour of stalking and responses to it.

 

Accessing the service
To access support from the Multi-Agency Stalking Project, the individual needs to be over 18 years old and living in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight and convicted of, or engaging in, stalking behaviour.

Individuals can be referred to the Multi-Agency Stalking Partnership through their Probation Offender Manager or a Police Officer from Hampshire Constabulary.

  • Police referrals
    To refer in NFA cases, please give the individual the PLSI leaflet and inform them that a member of the Southern Health team will contact them to tell them more about the intervention and see if they wish to engage. Please task their URN number to 602409 and Southern Health will do the rest.   • Probation referrals
    If the individual has not already been identified by MASP as requiring PLSI, please email hampshireMASIP@southernhealth.nhs.uk to request a referral form

Below are a number of the clinical interventions we provide.

Psychologist Led Stalking Intervention for service users whose behaviour fits the rejected or resentful stalker typology, who voluntarily engage, following police case NFA and those subject to Probation.

8 sessions plus 1 follow up session. Delivered weekly, face to face or via videolink by a Southern Health Psychologist.

Based on Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT), PLSI FACT helps the service user to identify changes they want to make to their lives and overcome barriers to this, address emotional dysregulation and dysfunctional coping, and provide education about stalking and the legal consequences. A formulation of why they are engaging in stalking behaviour is developed with the service user as well as a plan on how to avoid a recurrence of this.  Upon completion, the service user is provided with a booklet summarising the intervention and additional resources and support services.

Psychologist Led Stalking Intervention for service users whose behaviour fits the incompetent suitor stalker typology, who voluntarily engage following police case NFA, and those subject to Probation.

8 sessions plus 1 follow up session. Delivered weekly, face to face or via videolink by a Southern Health Psychologist.

Based on psycho education and adapted CBT, PLSI Skills Builder will be adapted to meets the needs of the individual and will aim to improve social skills, understanding of relational boundaries, and emotional regulation and provide education about stalking and the legal consequences. A formulation of why they are engaging in stalking behaviour is developed with the service user as well as a plan on how to avoid a recurrence of this.  Upon completion, the service user is provided with a booklet summarising the intervention and additional resources and support services.

Psychologist Led Stalking Intervention for service users whose behavior fits all stalking typologies and who present with complex psychiatric/psychological issues, for service users on a Stalking Protection Order (SPO) or Probation licence.

Number of sessions according to need, up to 26 weeks. Delivered weekly, face to face or via videolink by a Southern Health Psychologist.

Utilising evidence based psychological models (CBT, ACT, or schema therapy) to address the underlying clinical issues, according to the individual’s needs as well as provide education about stalking and the legal consequences. A formulation of why they are engaging in stalking behaviour is developed with the service user as well as a plan on how to avoid a recurrence of this.  Upon completion, the service user is provided with a booklet summarising the intervention and additional resources and support services.

For service users whose behaviour fits all stalking typologies and where serious psychiatric disorder is suspected, for service users on a SPO or Probation licence.

Consultation to Police Offender Manager or Probation Practitioner by Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist.

If required, psychiatric assessment with the service user by the Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist and follow up liaison with their mental health team if appropriate, and Police Offender Manager or Probation Practitioner.

Daily virtual mindfulness sessions to address rumination are also available to all service users, in addition to the interventions above.

A consultation must be held with the referring Police Offender Manager or Probation Practitioner prior to commencement of any intervention.

Communication between the referrer and treating Psychologist regarding attendance and any risk issues is required throughout the intervention.

During the intervention, the service-user’s attendance and any issues regarding risk, will be communicated to the Multi-Agency Stalking Partnership (Hampshire & IOW Constabulary, Hampshire & IOW Probation Service and Stop Domestic Abuse), in accordance with the Data Protection Act (2018).  Other information that does not have any connection with risk will be treated confidentially according to NHS Trust policy.
