Today we welcome community, mental health and learning disability services from Isle of Wight NHS Trust and the No Wrong Door Team from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (HIoW ICB) to our Trust.
This follows the transfer earlier this year into Southern Health of a number of staff from Sussex Partnership, which provides Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Hampshire.
It is the next phase of work bringing together healthcare services from Solent NHS Trust, Southern Health and the community, mental health and learning disability services from Isle of Wight NHS Trust into a single, new trust, called Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, in July 2024.
The new Trust will help create fairer access, a better experience and consistent outcomes for people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and help with the recruitment and retention of staff and the sustainability of local services.
Ron Shields Chief Executive Officer Designate for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust added: “Having our mental health, learning disability and community services join us from Isle of Wight NHS Trust is such an important step in our journey to become Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, in July. Bringing our services together will help us deliver better and more joined up care to the people living in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.”
Which Isle of Wight services are involved?
- Adult mental health services such as NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression (formerly known as IAPT), community mental health services, mental health inpatient wards.
- Some services for children and families including health visitors, children's therapies, the school nursing service, community CAMHS, perinatal and maternal mental health services.
- Physical health services including community nursing, physiotherapy, podiatry, sexual health, continence, chronic pain and orthotics and prosthetics services.
- Primary care services including the provision of some GP services.
- Learning disability services including Autism and ADHD services for adults.

What does this means for patients and service users?
We would like to reassure all patients and service users that you will still have access to the same services on the Island in the same clinics, in the same locations, supported by the same people. Contact numbers for services will remain the same.

What is happening and when?
The creation of the new Trust needs to be approved by NHS England, and it was recently agreed with them
that a little more time is needed.
The plan now is that we will complete the integration in phases:
- 1 February 2024: Hampshire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) successfully transferred from Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust to Southern Health Foundation Trust.
- 1 May 2024: Isle of Wight community, mental health and learning disability services to transfer to Southern Health.
- 1 July 2024: The final two phases will happen at the same time, with the transfer of Solent NHS Trust and the creation of the new Trust, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
