Immunisation nurse retires after 40 years' service

22 December 2023

Emma Franklin, Immunisation Project Lead Nurse, retires this week after 40 years in the NHS. Emma joined the Trust in its form in 1994.

Emma retired six years ago from School Nursing and returned part time to the School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS).

Julie Hooper, SAIS Service Manager, said: “Thank you for all your support and for everything you have done during this time, you have been proactive, responsive, and never held back in giving things a go. We will all miss you and wish you happiness as you begin your full retirement.”

In the last six years alone, Emma played a crucial role in big pieces of work, including setting up the School Age Immunisation Service when it was separated from School Nursing, successfully bid for the new SAIS contract, completed health equity audits to improve service delivery, and put our staff first by being responsible for training and induction programmes.

In the tireless efforts during the pandemic, Emma immediately responded when asked to join the small team working out of Oakley Road to manage the delivery of the Covid 19 vaccine to 12-15-year-olds. Emma took this on with enthusiasm and a commitment to manage this challenge, and it couldn’t have been done without her. Because of these efforts, the SAIS team was nominated for a star award in 2022.

Best wishes for a very happy and well deserved retirement, Emma!
