Elmleigh Hospital in Havant offers its nurses a robust preceptorship programme and further training opportunities with mentorship and other learning beyond registration courses.

We have a dedicated Practice Development Nurse who is on hand two days per week to provide coaching, mentoring and advice about further training opportunities. She also meets monthly with newly appointed staff for post induction discussions and reflection.

Our development programme for nurses at Bands 5 and 6 include three strands:

  • Therapeutic skills, including emotional coping, elements of cognitive behavioural and dialectical behavioural therapies among other approaches that are appropriate to an inpatient environment
  • Leadership development, including access to courses provided by our learning and development department, NHS Leadership Academy and coaching from our Acute Care Matron
  • Advanced Practice, including skills in physical health assessment, medicines management and coaching from our Consultant Psychiatrists and Ward Managers.

We have a cohort of experienced Associate Practitioners to allow you to focus on your patient care while they take care of the administrative running of the ward, allowing you to make sure our patients get the very most they can out of every day.

Our thirty four bed acute unit is based over two wards with a dedicated place of safety and a high dependency area. We also manage a section 136 suite within Elmleigh and this will enable nurses to build an increased understanding of the Mental Health Act and police liaison.

We are able to promote independence by means of recovery focused, personalised care, whilst working in partnership with our dedicated Occupational Therapy team who undertake assessment and intervention for patients occupational needs, psychology team who run a full therapeutic programme, as well as specialist support for patients with emotional dysregulation. Our aim is to minimise the time the patient spends in hospital by maximising the patients opportunity for a meaningful recovery.

If you want to work for a team that really makes a difference please call Holly Whitely or Charli O’Mara on 023 9268 2820. We would love to give you an informal tour or answer any questions you may have.
