Screening of the target genes for polymoprhic variation which may alter treatment response for airway

Chief Investigator: Professor Ian Hall, University Hospitals, Nottingham

There are many reasons why patients respond differently to a drug given for a particular condition. One possible factor which may contribute to this variability is the genetic make-up of an individual. The aim of this project is to look at the degree of variation in treatment response or disease severity seen in patients with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which could potentially be due to genetic variables.

What does the study involve?

The study will involve one visit to the hospital which will be about for one hour where bloods, breathing test and a short questionnaire will be administered

Inclusion Criteria

  • Diagnosis of asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Exclusion Criteria

  • Known highly transmissible or serious blood-borne infection .
  • Unable to provide consent
