Andrew is the department’s Quality Assurance Lead, responsible for ensuring that all ongoing clinical trials, studies and processes are being undertaken to the required quality, ethical and legal standards.
Andrew has a decade’s worth of experience within research, having left a clinical career within podiatry to take up a position as a Research Governance Officer. Andrew’s first managerial research position was that of manager of a Research Biorepository, a facility which provided researchers with efficient access to a wide range of high quality and well-characterised tissue from across an NHS Trust.
At Southern Health, Andrew was initially responsible for overseeing the portfolio of Physical Health studies. Whilst in this role Andrew managed Southern Health’s involvement in the 100,000 Genome Project, a flagship project led by Genomics England, which sequenced over 100,000 whole genomes from NHS patients. Andrew was also instrumental in setting up the Trust’s first drug trial within Primary Care. The ARTIC PC trial saw Southern Health and The Willow Group recruit over 30 children to a study considering the usefulness of Antibiotics for lower Respiratory Tract Infection in Children.
Andrew moved across to the role of QA Lead in 2019, with the task of ensuring that the research department’s processes are efficient and continually improving. Andrew’s aim within the role is to instil a quality-driven culture at work and, by motivating and empowering staff to deliver high-quality work, to secure Southern Health’s place as a leader of quality research.
Outside of research, Andrew is a keen cyclist and runner, with a marathon PB of 2:51.
