Professor Shanaya Rathod  Director of Research

Professor Shanaya Rathod is Consultant Psychiatrist, Clinical Services Director, and Director of Research at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust since 2013. She holds many other notable positions including, but not limited to: Mental Health Clinical Lead for CRN, Chair of Trust Psychosis Pathway group and Chair of Wessex Mental health Programme Monitoring Board. Dr Peter Phiri  Research & Development Manager

Dr Peter Phiri, PhD is the Research &Development Manager at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, a post he has held since 2015.  Based at the Tom Rudd Unit, Clinical Trials Facility, at Moorgreen Hospital. He has a wide range of clinical research experience of successfully designing, setting up and managing clinical trials within the field of mental health and physical conditions. Read more ➡

 Juliette Meek  Senior Research Nurse

Juliette trained at Guy’s Hospital in 1985 and has nursed in varying specialities including E.N.T., high dependency medicine, breast surgery and practice nursing. Later she became a Session Officer providing clinical management of blood donor sessions with the National Blood Service in London, the South East and Reading. Read more ➡

Andrew Trousdale  Quality Assurance Lead

Andrew is the department’s Quality Assurance Lead, responsible for ensuring that all ongoing clinical trials, studies and processes are being undertaken to the required quality, ethical and legal standards. Andrew has a decade’s worth of experience within research, having left a clinical career within podiatry to take up a position as a Research Governance Officer. Read more ➡

Mental Health

Charity Chakanetsa – Senior Research Mental Health Nurse 

Charity is a mental health nurse. She has worked for Southern Health Trust as an RMN since graduating from the University of Southampton as a mental health nurse in 2007 and later graduated with a degree in Nursing in 2011 whilst working for the Trust in Ravenswood House.

Ashlea is a Research Facilitator, working on the Mental Health Research Portfolio and has been with the department since August 2018. She started with the department as a Clinical Trials Assistant and really enjoyed the variety of the role and was eager to build a career in research. Read more ➡

Danielle McCracken  Research Facilitator

I started working in the Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Research and Development team in July 2018 as a mental health research facilitator. 

I very first entered research in March 2015 working at UHS in the clinical trials pharmacy. Within 3 months I went from pharmacy support worker to senior pharmacy support working making a start on my NVQ2 in pharmaceutical services. From here I discovered that my passion lied within research more than pharmacy and I took up my first clinical trials assistant role in paediatric oncology in May 2016. Read more ➡

Ayaat Al-Sudani – Research Facilitator

Ayaat joined SHFT in August 2019 as Research Assistant for NIHR-HAT funded research into a culturally-adapted family intervention, a study sponsored by Manchester University. She has now recently taken up a new position as Research Facilitator and project coordinator for mental health portfolio studies. Read more

I joined the R&D Physical Health Team as a Clinical Trials Assistant in July 2018 working primarily across physical health studies where I have continued to further develop my knowledge and skills in clinical research and further facilitate delivery of high quality activity to physical health studies.  Alice trained as a registered general nurse in 1983 at the Stanley Harris School of Nursing in South East London. She worked in different settings within the hospital environment; medicine, surgery and care of the older person. She is now a Research Nurse for the physical health team Read more ➡

Qi Zheng Research Nurse

Qi’s nursing career began in theatres where she worked for over ten years as a theatre practitioner, spanning different specialties - including major surgery - in London, Coventry, Exeter and Winchester. During her practice in theatres, she became interested in research after meeting researchers who were collecting research specimens. Read more ➡
