Specialist Mental Health Services

We provide a number of specialist mental health services:

  • Perinatal Mental Health Service - specialist assistance to women with antenatal or postnatal mental health problems. Care is in the community, in family homes - but for women needing an admission, we have a 10-bed unit for mothers and their babies in Winchester
  • Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service - a community service offering assessment, treatment and support for 14-65 year olds who are experiencing their first episode of psychosis
  • Psychiatric Liaison Service -helping staff in general hospitals (including A&E) to detect and manage mental health conditions while people are being treated for a physical illness
  • Eating Disorders Service -based in Southampton, Basingstoke and Portsmouth, we provide assessment and treatment for people with anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and some atypical eating disorders
  • Rehabilitation Service -we work closely with people to help them recover from a mental illness and manage their condition long-term, either in the community or a residential home

  • Crowlin House social care facility –we run an 18-bed social care unit in Totton which provides residential care for adults with mental health issues
  • Electro-Convulsive Therapy – Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) is a physical treatment carried out under general anaesthetic for people usually suffering from severe depression

  • The Recovery College – the team takes an educational approach to equip you with the knowledge and skills to get on with your life, despite mental illness. Enrolment takes minutes and there are courses all over Hampshire
  • The Southampton Crisis Lounge -based at Antelope House, it offers a safe and calm haven for people in mental health crisis, so they can avoid a visit to a busy and noisy A&E
  • Dementia Service - we provide a memory service and our consultant psychiatrists are able to diagnose dementia and provide medication. Community teams also provide ongoing support to a person with dementia, as well as their carers and families
