Child Health Advice Clinics

Regular local child health advice clinics are available to parents of children from birth to 5yrs old.

Baby clinic

At these clinics trained and experienced members of the health visiting team are available to discuss and support you in any aspect of a child or family’s health and wellbeing. This includes sleep, behaviour, toilet training, feeding, healthy weights, minor illnesses and more.

Additionally, you can expect to received routine support and advice with breastfeeding from your Health Visitor at the following times

  • Antenatal contact from 28 weeks
  • Telephone call between 4-6 days to complete a feeding assessment
  • New Birth Visit between 10-14 days
  • Postnatal contact between 6-8 weeks
  • Child Health Advice Clinics
  • Breastfeeding Support Groups

If you want further support or have a concern 

  • Your Health Visitor advice line available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5pm. The telephone number with be in your Parent Held Child Health Record Book (Red Book)
  • Child Health Advice Clinics
  • Breastfeeding Assessment and Support Drop-ins/ Clinics
  • Breastfeeding Support Groups for Assessment and Advice. These are led by Health Visitors and sometimes in partnership with Community Peer Support Workers

Plus, if needed you can expect further support for more specialist advice and complex feeding issues

  • A home visit by a member of the Health Visiting Team for a Breast or Infant Feeding Assessment, Advice and Support.
  • If required a referral to a GP (eg medication, ill baby, weight concerns), tongue-tie assessment clinic or Paediatrician (eg Jaundice)
