Learning Disabilty Awareness Week2.png

Learning Disability Awareness Week started on the 20th June 2022.

We ran a series of workshops for people with learning disabilities and their carers.

There were workshops on

  • Makaton
  • Annual Health Check workshops (exploring why it’s important to have a health check)
  • Diet, exercise and wellbeing workshops
  • Information about the Learning Disability GP Friendly Project.

We have received some fanastic feedback on the sessions.

An art competition was held asking service users to draw, paint or take a photo of their favourite place to visit.

On Friday 24th June the Mayor of Southampton visited the Southampton Community Learning Disability team to plant a rose. It celebrated both Learning Disability Awareness Week and also the recent Carers Week, the event was dedicated to those with learning disabilities and those that care for them – the rose being a symbol of unity when staff, carers and service users all work together.
