Southern Health part of Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service

14 May 2018

It’s been all about celebrating nursing the past week. In the lead up to National Nurses Day some of our Southern Health staff were honoured to attend the annual memorial service for Florence Nightingale on Wednesday (9 May).

Florence Nightingale commemoration

Invited by the Florence Nightingale Foundation, it was the first time we attended the service, which provides a unique opportunity for nurses, midwives, health care professionals, family members and guests to celebrate their professions. The service also gives thanks for Florence Nightingale’s extraordinary legacy to healthcare.

Julie Dawes (Chief Nurse), Julia Lake (Interim Divisional Director of Nursing and AHPs for ISD) and Emma Wadey (Deputy Director of Nursing for Mental Health) travelled to at Westminster Abbey for the special occasion.

Julie Dawes, Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals said: “It was a very emotional service which really reminded me of why I became a nurse 37 years ago.”

Julia Lake, our Interim Divisional Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals, added:  “It was an amazing experience. Westminster Abbey was incredible and the atmosphere and whole commemoration,  made us all so proud to be a nurse looking after patients.”
