Respiratory Nurse runs the extra mile for her patients

                                                                          24 May 2018

Inspired by her patients, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Respiratory Specialist Nurse Kelly Younger completed the London Marathon last month raising more than £3,500 for the British Lung Foundation. Last week she visited the Andover Breathe Easy Group to thank them for their inspiration and support.

In her role as a Respiratory Specialist Nurse, Kelly Younger works on a daily basis with patients who have difficulties with their breathing and supports the patient led Breathe Easy groups they attend.

Inspired by her patients and their determination to get better, she decided to take part in the London Marathon on Sunday 22 April and raise vital funds for the British Lung Foundation, who support the local Breathe Easy groups that are invaluable to her patients.

Kelly Younger said: “When I contacted the Andover Breathe Easy Group to pass on my thanks they informed me that they were only respiratory patients putting back funds to research their condition in order to help others like themselves. This totally inspired me to get through my gruelling training programme and it definitely got me through the gruelling hot and long marathon. I had to come and see them personally to say a massive thank you and I DID IT!”

Last week, Kelly went to visit and thank the Andover Breathe Easy Group, who sponsored an amazing £1,000 for her run.

Prior to running the marathon, Kelly had only ever run a maximum distance of about ten miles. She completed the incredible 26.2 run in a very impressive 5 hours 12 minutes, 40 seconds and has raised an incredible £3,504.80.
