Sandra Weston, nursing sister from Fareham 2 ICT, was in the car behind when she noticed something was wrong. She approached the car to find an older gentleman in cardiac arrest. Sandra acted quickly to perform CPR on the man, until a paramedic arrived on the scene – which took time due to heavy traffic following a Saints match. Even after the paramedic arrived, Sandra continued to carry out life-saving CPR until the gentleman was able to be transferred to hospital.
At the same time, Sandra supported and calmed the gentleman’s grandson who was also at the scene and understandably very distraught.
The gentleman is now recovering and emergency service colleagues have said that without Sandra’s intervention the outcome would have been very different.
Following an appeal by the gentleman’s wife on local radio to identify who saved her husband’s life, Sandra came forward and will be interviewed on BBC Radio Solent at 8:00am on Monday 18 February, where the gentleman’s wife will have an opportunity to say an emotional thank you live on air.
A huge congratulations and thanks to Sandra for putting her skills into practice and acting so decisively to save this man’s life.
