Health Visitors at Southern Health NHS Trust will be providing a breastfeeding facility and support venue - on a bus!
This year, ‘the bus of many things’ is being provided by the Test Valley Arts Foundation. The Trust’s Health Visiting Service, working in partnership with Barnardos will be offering a unique facility for mums who are breastfeeding or responsive bottle feeding at the New Forest Show taking place from 24 – 26 July 2018
The bus, for the duration of the New Forest Show, is designed to be a sanctuary for mums and babies who wish to breast or bottle feed in privacy, or who just want to take a break from the busy crowds.
Southern Health’s breastfeeding experts will also be on hand to offer advice, support and information to all.
The New Forest Show comes just a week before World Breastfeeding Week (1-7 August). The slogan of World Breastfeeding Week 2018 is ‘Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life’
Liz Taylor, Associate Director of Nursing and AHP for Children’s and Families at Southern Health said, “We are aiming to provide a comfortable and peaceful place for families to escape to during the busy show. Our health visitors will be supporting mums who are feeding, as well as giving them whatever support and advice they need about the services we provide. It’s a great space to escape the sun (or rain!) and ask our friendly health visitors any questions you might have about caring for your baby – whether it’s breast or bottle feeding!
“We’ll have activities for young children too, so we’re really looking forward to welcoming entire families on board our bus!”
This will be the Trust’s fourth year at the New Forest Show. Last year, one mum said she ““I came along to the Infant Feeding Bus at the New Forest Show and I was delighted to find the bus and be able to feed / change my baby in a welcoming designated area. Whilst feeding my toddler enjoyed the activities on offer and played happily. Thank you”
Our bus will be located in the “Family Fun area” area – we hope you can come and join us!
