The day consisted of a variety of workshops and open areas for service users, staff, students and members of the community alike to access and learn something new. Some of the workshops included, a recovery tree, mandala stones, baking, smoothie making, mood charts and gardening. There was also the opportunity to join discussions regarding Occupational Therapy, holistic working, meaningful occupation and sensory approaches.
A quote from Brigitte Hoare, Occupational Therapist, ‘The open day was a great way for us to demonstrate our evidence based practice and was also a lot of fun too!’
The event also demonstrated how Occupational Therapists can utilise tasks and activities that are of interest to people as a therapeutic medium and in turn, improve wellbeing and/or develop skills for independent living.
A participant commented, “Wonderful, well organised, well presented, beautifully laid out and planned. A real success! I learned about how different therapies can help people in different and enjoyable ways.”
Feedback was received throughout the day including comments on the positive atmosphere and the therapeutic space Elmleigh now has to offer.
Many thanks to all who attended and we hope to see you again next year!
