Ashford Ward is a 10-bed inpatient 'low secure' learning disability ward for men. Up until recently, the ward had been based at Woodhaven in Calmore.
All of the inpatients are detained under the Mental Health Act and a gate-keeping assessment is completed on all referrals, to confirm that they are appropriate for the service and to make sure that people are cared for in the least restrictive environment.
The patients are usually discharged into supported accommodation, or back into the community or they are sometimes transferred back into prison.
The team at Ashford is a multi-disciplinary team made up of nurses, support workers, occupational therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists.
The referral criteria for Ashford are consistent with NHS England service specifications for low secure learning disabilities inpatient services.
Please Note: Woodhaven/Ashford Ward is currently undergoing refurbishment to become a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit. A new learning disabilities residential unit is currently being built on the Tatchbury Mount site in Calmore. In the interim, Ashford Ward has relocated to Ravenswood House in Fareham.
