“Thanks in advance for considering joining the Southern Health family.  I am proud to be working in an organisation with such determination and ambition for genuine and progressive change.  Your talent, strong sense of social justice and inclusivity of all, will further strengthen our cause to become a truly diverse employer of choice.” Sarb Birk, Diversity and Inclusion Lead.

Being inclusive – welcoming everyone and embracing difference – has to be the bedrock of our culture, if you share our passion for inclusivity we would love you to join our leadership team as a Non-Executive Director.

We know that we have a way to go to make our organisation truly inclusive and we are looking for someone with leadership skills in social justice, equality, diversity, community relations and inclusion to drive us forward. We want to be representative of the population we serve at all levels by 2024/25 – that is to be inclusive of everyone’s background – gender, disability, sexual orientation, trans+ - all backgrounds. We are taking action to stop any inequality and injustice.

We are committed to creating a culture where equality, diversity and human rights are promoted actively and discrimination on the basis of peoples protected characteristics is not tolerated. Recent national reports, such as the Marmot Review, clearly show that despite some progress there is much for the NHS and wider society to do to bring equal access and outcomes for people irrespective of their backgrounds or circumstances. The full marmot review can be found here - https://www.health.org.uk/publications/reports/the-marmot-review-10-years-on

You’ll need to have a broad range of strategic skills and significant experience of aiding social change, being an ally, understanding and championing diversity as well as bringing about meaningful change in complex organisations. If you have the ability to challenge, inspire, motivate, advocate, influence and act as an ally both internally and externally, then please get in touch.

You’ll be working for Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust one of the largest NHS Foundation trusts in the country, specialising in mental health, adult and child community health and learning disability services. We have ambitious plans to become an outstanding, patient-led Trust with a fresh board driving our 6,000 dedicated staff to provide the best possible care to our 240,000 patients. If it’s culture you’re after then we have the historical cities of Portsmouth, Winchester and Salisbury within easy reach. There’s some amazing museums such as Milestones Living History Museum in Basingstoke and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard with the prestigious Mary Rose.

The county is served with some great travel links with quick and easy access to London. Southampton also has its own airport with large motorways including M3 and M27 serving the whole area.

You can pop on the ferry to Isle of Wight and join in with the annual music festival. There are also regular Farmers’ Markets held in villages across the county selling fresh, local produce and a range of homemade treats.

For those of you who enjoy sport we have a county cricket team and a premier league football team. If you love the water, then Hampshire is for you! We host Cowes Week sailing event, and a kite surfing festival every year. There are also many opportunities for kayaking, windsurfing and SUP.
