Trust to provide new health & emotional wellbeing service at Swanwick Lodge

5 May 2021

We are delighted to announce that, following a competitive procurement process, we have been chosen to provide a new integrated health and emotional wellbeing service for young people within Swanwick Lodge Secure Children’s Home in Hampshire.

The children’s home, based in Southampton, provides support for up to 16 young people (aged 10-17 years) who need a settled period of residential care within a safe, secure and therapeutic environment.

Our new service will enable these young people to access the physical and emotional health and wellbeing services all children have available to them, along with specialist services that they need to help them recover from experiences which have made them vulnerable. It will also help them to develop positive relationships and to resettle in and contribute positively to their communities, improving their future lives.

Building on established health and social care support, the new service will put each young person at the centre of decision-making about their care in order to help them reduce harmful behaviours - such as smoking and substance misuse – and make more positive health choices to aid their physical, emotional and mental health.

Southern Health’s Deputy Director Operations for Children and Family Services, Ginny Taylor commented: “We’re looking forward enormously to starting work with the young people at Swanwick Lodge. We are committed to improving their health and emotional wellbeing, working alongside them in partnership with Hampshire County Council’s social care and education teams. As a local NHS Trust, we have a long history of well-established services within Hampshire delivering physical and mental healthcare, emotional wellbeing and public health services to a wide range of children, young people and their families/carers within their homes, the community and within secure settings.”

The new service will begin on 1 July 2021, with a contract duration of 7 years.
