Southern Health will once again be participating in this year’s Southampton Pride, a bright and colourful day to celebrate diversity and individuality.
“Pride means something different for everyone.” Julia Fountain, Workforce Business Manager at Southern Health commented
“For me it represents the importance of being with others who want to change the world for the better, to stand in unity; it is so important that I belong to a Trust that continues to stand up for us, for our rights and for equality, a Trust where I belong and I matter.”
As Southern Health is one of the largest mental health providers within the UK, Southampton Pride is a fantastic opportunity to signpost services to the LGBTQ+ community, who are often more likely to experience mental health issues. In fact, those who identify as LGBTQ+ are nearly twice as likely to experience a mental health problem*.
Southern Health will be hosting a stall on the day inside Southampton Guildhall from 11am, where staff members will be posing the question ‘HowRUToday?’ to pride-goers with the aim of opening up a conversation about mental health. There will be clinicians available to talk to those who recognise they need support, as well as contact cards to take away with them. Italk, our talking therapy service, will also be at our stand on the day offering advice and guidance around anxiety management, relaxation and other common mental health issues.
Come along to Southampton Guildhall Square on Saturday 24 August from 11am, entry is free and all are welcome. For more information, please visit our website https://www.southernhealth.nhs.uk/about/news/southampton-pride-is-back/
