Statistics on suicide in the UK


Last year, deaths by suicide increased by 11.8% in the UK. There were over 6,500 suicides in 2018. 


Men are three times as likely to die by suicide than men in the UK.

 

The highest rate of suicide is among men aged 45-49.

Roughly 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year.

In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (anxiety or depression) in any given week.
