Mental health reporting
Journalists looking for information on the most appropriate ways of reporting emotional crises or mental health issues - including suicide - may like to refer to the guidelines by the Samaritans which are supported by most media organisations and professional bodies.
Suicide Prevention: Do you know where to go for help?
This year World Suicide Prevention Day is on Saturday 10 September and we will be sharing videos of people with lived experience and publicising our life cards throughout the week beginning 5 September. One of our key aims focuses on sharing vital information regarding suicide prevention so people know what to do if they, or someone they know, is feeling suicidal.
Hugh Bonneville celebrates Petersfield’s Urgent Treatment Centre one-year anniversary and official opening with staff
The service originally opened in 2021 but staff were unable to host an official opening due to the COVID-19 pandemic and so the celebrations also marked the official opening of the UTC.
NHS south east regional director thanks staff as longest waits now reduced
NHS staff across the South East of England have now reduced the longest waits for scans, checks, surgical procedures and other routine treatment below two years -the first milestone in the most ambitious catch-up plan in health service history.

Hampshire falls and frailty care service shortlisted for national patient safety award
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS), and Wessex Academic Health Science Network, have been shortlisted for a National Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Award for 'improving care for older people initiative of the year' for their falls and frailty care service – designed to treat patients at home, who have fallen or are experiencing frailty symptoms, and avoid a trip to the Emergency Department.
Mental health awareness event – breaking down barriers
Local NHS mental health trust, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and St Denys Activity Group – supporting mental health in the community, jointly hosted a mental health awareness event in Southampton on Saturday 25 June.
