Cherry ward opening

Southern Health are pleased to announce the opening of a brand new 18 bed ward for females with acute mental health needs, at Parklands Hospital in Basingstoke.

Cherry ward nurses station The new ward is located on the first floor of Parklands Hospital and boasts:

  • 18 ensuite bedrooms
  • A new sensory room
  • A brand new art room,
  • A new occupational health kitchen
  • A new crafts room
  • IT suite
  • A modern staff room and multiple meeting rooms.

Over 100 patients with specialist mental health needs have been helping to design the layout of the new ward, the look and feel of the therapeutic corner, the patient lounge and staff areas. They also chose the colours, decoration and furniture to ensure we provide the best environment for the people who will be using our service.

One of our key priorities is to ensure everyone in our population who needs a mental health bed, has access to one close to home and their friends, family and carers.

As this new ward will be female only,  Juniper Ward will become a male only ward. This allows us to comply with national NHS guidelines on single sex wards and helps us improve the therapeutic environment on the ward.
