Get access to this service
A consultant psychiatrist or unit manager will need to make a referral to these services.
Your health professional will need to make a referral in writing or by phone. If referring by phone, the referral must be followed up in writing.
We don’t provide an emergency service, so your admission will always be planned in advance.
How we can help
The goal of our service is to promote your independence. We do this by working closely with you, supporting you to develop the skills you need to achieve your aspirations.
The Ashford Unit provides intensive support in a secure environment. We help people with learning disabilities who also have a mental illness, such as a personality disorder, or challenging behaviour. The Ashford Unit is the only NHS run service of its kind in Hampshire.
We have a multi-skilled team of health and social care professionals working at our inpatient services, including:
- Consultant psychiatrists
- Clinical nurse specialists
- Registered learning disabilities nurses
- Health care support workers
- Consultant and assistant Psychologists
- Occupational therapists
- Speech and language therapists
- Community support team
- Access to independent advocacy service
- Social workers
After your stay, we will work closely with other services and organisations to help you live in the community, or a different healthcare service. Once you’ve been discharged, we can still continue to support you.
