Breastfeeding assessment, advice and support clinics/drop ins

You can get breast feeding support from any of our breastfeeding assessment, advice and support clinics /drop ins  where staff within our Health Visiting Teams are trained and experienced to advise and support you.

Additionally, you can expect to received routine support and advice with breastfeeding from your Health Visitor at the following times

  • Antenatal contact from 28 weeks
  • Telephone call between 4-6 days to complete a feeding assessment
  • New Birth Visit between 10-14 days
  • Postnatal contact between 6-8 weeks
  • Child Health Advice Clinics
  • Breastfeeding Support Groups


If you want further support or have a concern 

  • Your Health Visitor advice line available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. The telephone number with be in your Parent Held Child Health Record Book (Red Book)
  • Child Health Advice Clinics
  • Breastfeeding Assessment and Support Drop-ins / Clinics
  • Breastfeeding Support Groups for Assessment and Advice. These are led by Health Visitors and sometimes in partnership with Community Peer Support Workers


Plus, if needed you can expect further support for more specialist advice and complex feeding issues

  • A home visit by a member of the Health Visiting Team for a Breastfeeding Assessment, Advice and Support.
  • If required a referral to a GP (e.g. medication, ill baby, weight concerns), tongue-tie assessment clinic or Paediatrician (e.g. Jaundice)

Free, drop in. Tea and coffee provided. No child care provided. 
For breastfeeding/mixed feeding or wishes to BF mothers. 
For mothers whose babies are under 28 days. 
No mobile baby unless a sibling but it would be the mothers responsibility to look after the sibling as no cr�che/childcare facilities.
