About DeNDRoN

DeNDRoN becomes national

Dementias & Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Network (DeNDRoN) was started on a national level in September 2005 as part of the UK Clinical Research Network (CRN). It was started along with five other research networks; National Cancer Research Network (NCRN), UK Mental Health Research Network, Diabetes Research Network (DRN), Medicines for Children Research Network (MCRN) and Stroke Research Network (SRN).

Why DeNDRoN was started

DeNDRoN is a network of research collaborators – patients, carers, academics, clinicians and support staff – working together to develop and deliver new high quality clinical research.  It is a network of NHS trusts, the people that work in them and the people that use their services; working together to ensure that clinical research is delivered on time to target to the benefit of people affected by dementias and neurodegenerative diseases.

Current aims for DeNDRoN

The aim of South Coast DeNDRoN is to increase the availability of clinical trials across the South Coast, both to allow access to research and potential new treatments to more patients and to involve more clinicians so that experience of new drugs and treatments is more equitably distributed throughout the region.

We aim to find interested clinicians who can act as the catalyst to allow us to develop research centres around the region by providing training and study staff to get things going.

Just as importantly, we aim to get patients and public, more involved in research, broadening opportunity to take part in trials and also providing a voice to put forward ideas and views on research. For more information visit our Involvement page.

Hampshire Partnership Trust has recently merged with Hampshire Community Health Care to become Southern Health, meaning that South Coast DeNDRoN is now covered by Southern Health. If you would like some more information about the change, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We have also had some recent management changes. Christine Woodfine and Caroline Coleman are currently sharing the Network Manager role. They aim to find a permanent candidate for the role by the end of February.
