We had an excellent evening at Petersfield Community Hospital last Tuesday (12 Dec) when we hosted our “Managing Stress” members event.
Mark Morgan, Director of Operations (Mental Health and Learning Disabilities) welcomed attendees, discussing the importance of good mental health and how, particularly this time of year, anxiety and depression seems more prevalent.
Jack Siou, iTalk Psychological Therapist lead a very informative and interactive discussion on what italk services are and how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help those suffering with anxiety and depression. He gave some helpful tips and techniques to address key areas – Behaviour Activation (getting people motivated to do one thing each day (albeit for 10 minutes), Breathing and Relaxation (taking the time to practice managing your breathing), and tackling the “fight or flight” instincts.
Attendees found the event extremely helpful to find out how they can get help with mental health via talking therapies for either themselves or others. It was great to see staff there too finding out how they can help patients in the community or on the wards.
More information on italk is available on their website: www.italk.org.uk.
Our next event is on Tuesday 27 February 6-8pm at Development and Training Centre, Tatchbury Mount, Calmore, Southampton, SO40 2RZ - further details to follow.
