Jane has lived with the often-misunderstood mental illness, OCD, for more than 40 years and is passionate about breaking down stigma surrounding mental health to help empower patients.
She explained: “We wanted to give patients a platform for their voice and for them to express, creatively, aspects of their mental illness. The event will include a photography exhibition, poetry readings, a t-shirt stall with designs about mental health, animations, films and artwork by staff and patients, plus short talks from patients about mental health. This is a truly collaborative project with the people we care for – the mayor will be welcomed by our patients and staff together…and even the name of the festival came from a patient suggestion!”
The Excited Orange Festival will take place from 2.00pm to 5.00pm on Friday 24 February at Antelope House, on the Royal South Hants hospital site on Brintons Terrace, Southampton SO14 0YG.
The event is free to attend and everyone is welcome. However places are limited and if you’d like to attend, please email Jane Collard on Jane.Collard@southernhealth.nhs.uk or call her on 07876 563259. There is parking on the site but this will be pay and display only.
