What we do

Lymington Endoscopy Unit is a stand-alone service providing an efficient, safe, high quality service to the local population in a timely manner.  To ensure that this is achieved each patient referral is reviewed by an appropriate member of the team.

An endoscopy is a procedure where the inside of the body is examined using a narrow flexible tube with a light and camera on the end.

Please click on the links below for more information about the procedures which are performed at the Unit :

  • Gastroscopy - examination of the oesophagus, stomach and first section of duodenum

  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy - examination of the lower section of the large bowel

  • Colonoscopy - examination of the large bowel. Find out what happens during a Colonoscopy here.

  • Bronchoscopy - examination of the lungs

  • Flexible cystoscopy - examination of the bladder (leaflet for males and females available)

The procedures performed at Lymington Hospital are usually to investigate symptoms or monitor a condition.  The unit has strong links with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and patients requiring more complex procedures will be referred to the Endoscopy Unit at Southampton General Hospital.
